I think we can all relate to this meme, Chik-fil-a SHOULD be open on Sunday. It should just be open 24-7 to be honest. This meme, along with being relatable, can be rhetorically analyzed. The exigence, or issue, expressed is that Chik-fil-a is wanted on the day that it is closed, Sunday. The meme portrays a young girl making a scrunched face to represent "that face" made for the issue expressed. The mode of this meme is visual and also text-based. You first read "that face" then proceed to look at the girls face, and then read the rest of the text underneath. It makes you put two and two together, the picture and the text. The media is digital because it is seen through a computer or a phone. The audience is also anyone who comes across it. In this case, it is the ENC 2135 class. But the audience that it relates to is anyone who wanted Chik-fil-a on a Sunday.
The composer used this style because it stands out rather than just a picture with text underneath it. The capital white letters against the black and white background catch our attention. The design choices are using a young girl, using black and white, and capital letters. The young girl shows an over expressed face as if she would throw a tantrum, which is nostalgic to us. The black and white also has an old feel to it. And finally, the capital letters represent shouting or yelling. The rhetorical appeal used is pathos because it is appealing and relatable to us. Even if people don't like Chik-fil-a or never felt this exact feeling, feelings of frustration in this manner happen to almost everyone. And the overall purpose of this meme is to share that same frustration the composer felt with others. Memes are usually shared and circulated throughout the internet when they are relatable. It was definitely effective because it matches the feeling expressed along with being funny.
